Quitting Smoking

The studies below confirm the effectiveness of hypnosis in stop-smoking programs around the world.

Study 1

In a study where smokers attended one-on-one hypnotherapy for stop smoking over three sessions, 81% had stopped smoking after the treatment ended, at a 12 month follow-up nearly 50% remained smoke free. Study 2

90.6% participants of a study reported success for Smoking Cessation when using Hypnosis. Of 43 patients undergoing a treatment protocol involving hypnosis for smoking cessation, 39 participants (that's 90.6%) reported remaining abstinent from tobacco use at a follow-up procedure conducted between 6 months to 3 years later. Study 3

In a field study, 87% participants reported continued abstinence from Tobacco Use with Hypnosis. In the study, 93 male and 93 female outpatients used hypnosis for smoking cessation. 3 months later 86% of the men and 87% of the women reported that they continue staying abstinent from tobacco use. Study 4

Hypnosis patients are twice as likely to remain smoke free than those who quit on their own after two years. A study involving 71 smokers came to the conclusion that patients using hypnosis were twice as likely to remain smoke-free compared to those who quit on their own.Guided Health Imagery for Smoking Cessation and Long-term Abstinence. Study 5

Meta analysis combining 600 studies involving 72,000 people concludes that hypnosis is 3 times more effective than Nicotine Replacement Therapy (patches etc.) and 15 times more effective than Willpower to stop smoking.University of Iowa, Journal of Applied Psychology, How one in Five Give Up Smoking, October 1992.
